WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:Job Summary
The Senior Accountant supports the monthly close and financial reporting processes for the Synchrony
Pharmacy Accounting team and is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial results for
multiple pharmacy locations. This position provides exposure to senior finance and operations leadership
and plays an important role in supporting financial performance across the pharmacy network. The ideal
candidate is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare
environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Leads month-end close activities for assigned pharmacy entities, ensuring timely and accurate
financial reporting.
• Ensures the accuracy and completeness of financial results for assigned pharmacy entities
through review of income statement and balance sheet activity during the monthly close process.
• Prepares and posts complex journal entries and performs balance sheet reconciliations to support
the monthly close process.
• Calculates and records bad debt reserves and pharmacy cost of goods sold (COGS) based on
dispensing activity, reimbursement data, and inventory trends affecting pharmacy margins.
• Analyzes revenue, margin, and expense fluctuations versus budget or prior periods and provide
clear explanations for key drivers.
• Presents monthly financial results to operational leaders and provides insights into financial
performance, margin trends, and cost drivers.
• Collaborates with FP&A, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Revenue Cycle, and Financial
Reporting teams to support accurate financial reporting and operational decision-making.
• Works closely with pharmacy operations and purchasing teams to monitor inventory activity, drug
costs, and margin trends impacting pharmacy profitability.
• Ensures adherence to GAAP, internal accounting policies, and internal control procedures while
supporting internal and external audit requests.
• Performs technical accounting research and supports financial system implementations, upgrades, and reporting improvements.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor Degree
Experience: 5-8 years
Licenses and Certifications
CPA or CPA eligibility preferred.
Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, stooping, walking, and moving intermittently during
working hours. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Must be able to maintain verbal and written
communication with co-workers, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and all
business associates outside of the health campus.
