Senior Accountant

A mission-driven nonprofit healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its collaborative accounting team. This Senior Accountant role is ideal for an experienced accountant who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and working across departments to strengthen financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Core Accounting

  • Perform full-cycle general ledger accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Complete bank reconciliations and investigate variances

  • Support month-end close activities and financial reporting

Revenue & Operational Accounting

  • Assist with revenue accounting processes and resolve operational accounting issues

  • Step in to stabilize and support Accounts Payable problem areas as needed

  • Analyze large datasets and transform financial data into usable reporting formats

Grants & Nonprofit Accounting Support

  • Work with large federal grant programs

  • Review grant budgets and pull related expenses for internal tracking

  • Partner with program teams to ensure spending aligns with grant requirements

Data Analysis & Excel Reporting

  • Build and maintain complex Excel reports

  • Perform data transformation using pivot tables, advanced formulas, large dataset manipulation

  • Prepare journal entries and analyses directly from Excel-based workflows

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Document accounting processes and procedures

  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend operational improvements

  • Help implement improved workflows and accounting systems

Senior Accountant Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • 5+ years of accounting experience

  • Strong general ledger accounting foundation

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data transformation)

  • Experience working in environments requiring adaptability and problem-solving

  • Ability to ask questions, challenge processes, and implement improvements

Preferred Experience

  • Nonprofit or healthcare accounting experience

  • Federal grant exposure

  • Experience working in consulting or multi-environment roles

  • Exposure to NetSuite, or similar ERP systems
