JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing complex accounting tasks, ensuring financial accuracy, and supporting strategic financial planning. This role often serves as a bridge between junior accounting staff and accounting management. This role works closely with the Controller, Financial Planning & Analysis Director and Assistant Controller to ensure that financial plans align with the organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports
Oversee general ledger operations and month-end/year-end close processes
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations (e.g., GAAP)
Assist on internal and external audits
Reconcile accounts and maintain accurate financial records
Assist with preparation of documentation tax returns
Follow accounting policies and procedures
Communicate financial insights to senior management
Staying updated on industry trends, accounting principles, and regulations to maintain a high level of expertise
Month end
Prepare bank reconciliation
Prepare inventory roll forward
Prepare accounts receivable roll forward
Prepare fixed asset roll forward
Reporting
Prepare property tax returns
Prepare sales tax returns
Leadership & Team Development
Mentor and guide junior accounting staff
Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field (CPA preferred).
6+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
Minimum of 3 years of management experience
The ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and make strategic decisions is vital.
Strong skills in accounting software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel are necessary.
A deep understanding of accounting principles (like GAAP and IFRS), tax compliance, and legal financial requirements is essential.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or food industry, preferred.
