Senior Accountant
CFS
Arvada, CO
Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant plays a critical hands-on role in supporting a fast-paced, acquisition-driven construction business. This position is responsible for owning key elements of the month-end close, maintaining balance sheet integrity, and ensuring accurate accounting across multiple systems and subledgers in a deadline-driven environment.
As a Senior Accountant, you will be deeply involved in day-to-day accounting operations, partnering closely with finance leadership to strengthen processes while keeping the books clean, timely, and audit-ready. This role is ideal for someone with strong progressive accounting experience who enjoys rolling up their sleeves rather than working in a purely oversight capacity.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will spend approximately 50% of the time executing month-end close activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting a tightened close timeline. Responsibilities include fixed asset tracking and disposals, maintaining subledgers, and ensuring alignment between operational data and the general ledger.
The remaining time is focused on credit card and expense processing (including Concur and fleet/gas cards), reviewing postings for accuracy, and supporting ongoing clean-up and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Accountant will also assist with WIP-related reporting and analytical support as needed, including rebuilding and maintaining WIP schedules in Excel.
Process Overview
A successful Senior Accountant will manage journal entries from initiation through posting, reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts monthly, and independently identify discrepancies before close deadlines. Fixed assets are tracked at a detailed level, including additions, transfers, and disposals. Expense and credit card activity is reviewed, posted, and reconciled to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Minimum Requirements
The ideal Senior Accountant brings strong hands-on accounting experience in a progressive environment. Practical experience and demonstrated competency are more important. Construction accounting exposure is beneficial but not mandatory. Experience with Spectrum is a significant plus. Intermediate Excel skills are required, particularly for reconciliation work and rebuilding WIP schedules.
Compensation & Culture
This Senior Accountant role offers a competitive salary range of $90,000–$100,000 plus growth opportunity. The environment is PE-backed, fast-moving, and deadline-focused. A strong work ethic, curiosity, and willingness to engage cross-functionally are essential.
If you are a detail-oriented, proactive Senior Accountant who values ownership and accountability. This role offers meaningful impact and career runway.
