Position Overview
A food‑processing facility is seeking a Sanitation Supervisor for its overnight operations. This position is responsible for overseeing sanitation activities, ensuring production areas are cleaned and prepared according to internal standards, industry regulations, and customer expectations. The supervisor leads a team of sanitation employees, manages workflow, enforces safety requirements, and ensures all cleaning tasks are completed accurately and on time. This role reports directly to plant leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Daily Operations
- Direct and support sanitation personnel during the cleaning and inspection of production areas before startup.
- Provide daily assignments, answer questions, and reinforce safety protocols during shift meetings.
- Deliver training for new and existing employees, ensuring all team members follow proper procedures.
- Coach staff members, address performance issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented consistently.
- Foster a respectful, positive work environment built on accountability and high ethical standards.
Safety, Compliance & Standards
- Enforce all sanitation and safety practices, including proper chemical usage, PPE, Lockout/Tagout, GMP, SQF, and related requirements.
- Ensure cleaning activities meet company, regulatory, and customer specifications.
- Maintain compliance with USDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA, and related guidelines.
- Conduct or support sanitation and pre‑operational audits to identify non‑conforming conditions and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Planning, Scheduling & Workflow Management
- Oversee the completion of sanitation schedules and verify tasks are carried out correctly and efficiently.
- Review work progress, identify process improvements, and take timely action to meet sanitation goals.
- Use problem‑solving methods, teamwork strategies, and process‑control tools to maintain or exceed performance expectations.
- Coordinate staffing, workflow, and task placement to support production readiness.
Cross‑Department Collaboration
- Work closely with plant leadership and other supervisors to maintain efficient facility operations.
- Conduct pre‑operation checks and communicate issues requiring follow‑up or additional support.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties or tasks as assigned to support sanitation and plant operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a sanitation or manufacturing environment; meat or protein processing experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of USDA, HACCP, GMP, and OSHA requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, and odorous conditions.
- Experience handling chemicals safely, including sanitizers and acid‑based cleaning agents.
- Flexible with scheduling, including overtime and weekend work.
- Solid computer skills and the ability to write clear reports.
- Safety‑focused, results‑oriented, and employee‑centered leadership style.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Willingness to attend training or classes as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; occasional lifting of up to 90 lbs may be required.
