RESPONSIBILITIES

Salesman would have full communication responsibilities for customers within said territory.
Assistance with customer quotations, invoicing, etc., handled by inside staff as needed. 

Working with consulting engineers to spec and design systems around our equipment. This is the main component for success in this position (given the territory). 

Requirements of the job will include regular on-site visits with clients. Hire will need to be prepared to provide supervision and guidance on equipment design, with troubleshooting and potential start-up field visits, with end users and contractors. Minimal wrench turning regularly performed.

Consulting Mechanical Engineer (sales)

Michigan and northern Indiana 


Somes-Nick is a manufacturer’s representative firm, with trusted ties amongst our customers, serving the Midwest since 1952. We are looking for a highly motivated Engineer with a background in power generation projects to join our sales team!

The territory coverage would be (roughly):
-State of Michigan
-Indiana: Top 1/3 of the state


The role would be responsible for covering our entire portfolio of products which include:
Power generation and process equipment such as steam turbines, co-gen reciprocating 
engine packages, heat recovery steam generators, field-erected cooling towers, heat 
exchangers, and mist elimination products.


HVAC and Industrial equipment including pressure regulators and control valves, safety 
valves, boilers, steam traps, and pumps.

  • We are not looking for order takers. Ideal candidate would have at least 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience or sales experience with related products, and the knowledge to assist clients with engineered solutions to solve system needs. We work in a specialized industry. Mechanical aptitude is required for this job.
  • Engineering degree not required but preferred. This job will entail working closely with consulting engineering firms, along with end user maintenance staff, and contractors / distribution clients.
  • Great communication and “people skills” will have a major impact on this hire. Our business relies not only on our application & product knowledge, but significantly on the personal relationships with our customers and their comfortability with our salesman as a whole. Our staff reflects a small family. Friendly internal communication and the ability to work with other staff members is a must.
  • Optimal candidate currently lives in northern Indiana or Michigan. When not traveling to see customers our employees have the ability to work from home. Our main office is located in the Chicago Suburbs.

What we provide:
- Extensive product training will be provided on a daily basis in-house. Somes-Nick will also have factory visits, and industry / application learning sessions scheduled with our principles, for the new hire to attend. Training will vary as much or as little as needed.- Somes-Nick covers health benefits. Plans to be discussed during interview process.
- 3 weeks paid vacation included. Availability for communication in emergency situations required.
