We are looking for a Safety Specialist to join our team in Buffalo, IO. As a Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal regulations. This position will also conduct training sessions, investigate incidents, lead site execution of the corporate/segment safety strategy and provide recommendations for improvement ensuring clear, tactful, concise communication flows upwards and downwards throughout the organization and will work closely with Manufacturing, Logistics and Quality to find solutions that are both practical and sustainable. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

About the Role
Responsibilities:
- Plans, implements, and maintains comprehensive safety and health programs in compliance with plant rules, company policies, and MSHA regulations.
- Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, identify corrective actions, and follow through on improvements.
- Collaborates with management during internal and external audits, prepares hazard abatement notices, and maintains required safety logs and documentation.
- Serves as the primary contact for injury and incident reporting, investigation, case management, first aid response, and coordination of medical treatment.
- Accurately records incidents and near misses in the Safety Management System (SMS) and manages workers’ compensation claims to ensure timely resolution.
- Develops and updates site-specific emergency response plans, SOPs, and safety programs, including contractor safety management, Hearing Conservation, and Pulmonary Function testing.
- Provides visible on-site leadership, coaching, and mentorship to teammates, visitors, and contractors, and actively supports safety committees.
- Analyzes safety performance data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement, communicates metrics to site leadership, and administers safety recognition programs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
About You
We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of safety principles and regulatory compliance requirements, with the ability to obtain certifications in First Aid, CPR, DOT, OSHA, MSHA Part 48/46, and RCRA.
- Knowledgeable in regulatory auditing and inspection processes, as well as basic engineering calculations to support permitting, reporting, compliance, and project objectives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with accurate data entry skills. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, building strong working relationships with team members and external agencies.
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and commitment to federal, state, and industry regulations, standards, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Must be reliable and available to report to the designated work site as scheduled.
- Must pass pre-employment screening (physical, background check, and drug screen).
