Job Summary and Qualifications

Under supervision of the Critical Care Director, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Manager oversees the Intensive Care Unit staff and works closely with the department director, clinical educator, resource nurses, leadership team in guiding the department’s growth, patient satisfaction, physician’s relations, and fiscal responsibility. The manager supervises and directs the delivery of patient care and care related services for the Intensive Care Unit in accordance with administrative policies, as well as hospital vision, mission and strategies. The manager works collaboratively with Director, staff, physicians, and other disciplines within the hospital to create a system of safe, quality health care.

Maintains Clinical knowledge of areas within the department.

Manages day-to-day operations involving scheduling, patient-team rounding, and ensuring patient and family satisfaction.

Assist unit educator with competency development and execution.

Assist resource nurse with throughput.

Assist in interviewing and hiring personnel.

Assist with monitoring and evaluation of employee performance, implementation of learning plans, and the completion of staff yearly evaluations.

Assist in counseling staff and in implementing disciplinary processes when indicated, including termination.

Provides leadership in compliance with regulatory agency standards, national nursing standards and specialty nursing standards.

Assist in monitoring the delivery of high-quality patient care and in evaluating patient optimal outcomes.

Assist with budget formulation and execution.

Maintains quality audits and monitors daily core measures.

Assist with the monitoring, management, and ordering of supplies.

Assist in the procurement, monitoring, maintenance, and purchasing of capital and non-capital equipment.

The nurse manager will continue to oversee departmental operations in the absence of the director and will manage issues outside of their job description scope to Senior Leadership as needed.

Will assist staff in the direct delivery of patient care during extreme volume surges and when if internal or external crisis, which may affect patient care arise.

Will assist in staff rounding, staff meetings, Intensive Care Unit and related committee meetings.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

2+ years of leadership experience

Critical Care experience required

Bachelor's Degree

NH RN License or Compact State RN License

ACLS within 30 days of hire

BLS within 30 days of hire
