Job Title: RN – Flex Pool (Med-Surg/Step-Down) – Nights
Job Location:Hilo, HI
Working Hours:
12-hour night shifts (1845–0715)
36 scheduled hours per week after orientation
Department: Flex Pool – Medical, Surgical, and Cardiovascular Units
Position Summary
The RN Flex Pool provides high-quality nursing care while floating between multiple units, including Medical, Laulima Surgical Acute, and the Cardiovascular Unit. The role requires strong clinical skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage varying patient populations and acuity levels. Orientation will be provided for each assigned unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care across various medical/surgical units.
- Float between Medical, Laulima Surgical Acute, and occasionally Cardiovascular Units as needed.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care following facility protocols.
- Administer medications and treatments using Meditech/EPIC EMR, Pyxis, wound vacs, and chest tube equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold infection control standards.
- Respond to changing acuity and staffing needs across departments.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Adhere to professional nursing attire guidelines and facility policies.
- Active Hawaii RN license (or must apply immediately upon offer; required by start date).
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (Med-Surg or Step-Down preferred).
- BLS required; ACLS preferred (PALS, TNCC, ENPC, Procedural Sedation beneficial).
- Proficiency with Meditech/EPIC EMR and common unit equipment.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to float efficiently between multiple units and adapt to varying workloads.
- Must arrive Thursday before start date for Employee Health appointment on Friday.
