Job Summary and Qualifications
Working under the supervision and guidance of a Respiratory Therapist, the Respiratory Therapy Extern will assess, treat and care for patients with pulmonary disease processes or respiratory care orders. You will primarily be responsible for non-invasive respiratory care modalities, maintaining patient records and operations of respiratory care equipment.
What you will do in this role:
- You will set up and operate therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable medical products, following specific parameters for treatment.
- You will provide emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac message, and assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- You will evaluate requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, medication and dosage, in accordance with physician orders.
- You will monitor physiological response to therapy, such as vital signs, pulse oximetry, auscultation, and consult with the preceptor and/or shift supervisor for changes in patients’ status.
- You will read prescriptions, and review patient information to assess the patient’s condition.
- You will work as part of a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to manage patient care, enforce safety rules, and ensure adherence to the physician’s orders.
What qualifications you will need:
- Must be currently enrolled in a state approved respiratory care program.
- Must have completed one semester of clinical practicum.
