RESIDENCE HALL DIRECTOR
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Residence Hall Director position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.
Reporting to the Director of Housing and Residential Life or their designee, the Residence Hall Director is responsible for providing a supportive living and learning environment for students at the University while working cooperatively in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff members. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate success working with college students with a progressive and educational focus. This is a 10-month live-in position. Starting salary for this position will be in the mid-40s.
DUTIES
1. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
a. Through direct interaction and involvement, works to enhance the development of students in all aspects of residential life.
b. Acts as a general resources person who provides and refers students for additional services as needed.
c. Provides academic support under the supervision of the Office of Student Affairs.
d. Works cooperatively with the Offices of Housing and Residential Life and Student Conduct to enforce University rules and regulations.
e. Works with the Office of Student Conduct in reporting Code of Conduct violations and adjudicating assigned cases while also preparing records for the student conduct as required.
f. Acts as advisor to the Residence Hall Association of assigned building(s) and assists association with monitoring their budget.
g. Plans, promotes, and implements residence hall programs and initiatives that aid in the academic and personal success of students.
h. Provides residential students with appropriate academic, vocational, personal, social, and disciplinary counseling.
2. ADMINISTRATIVE
a. Is aware of the physical condition of the area, reports property damage and physical plant problems and informs the Housing Office whether routine custodial work is being performed satisfactorily.
b. Supervises student staff in routine room inspection and performs an inspection of entire area physical plant prior to Thanksgiving Vacation, Spring Vacation, and before the last week of classes in each semester. The Professional Staff, in cooperation with the Director of Housing, will perform a final inspection of the physical plant subsequent to departure of all residents.
c. Maintains inventory of all furniture and equipment assigned to the residential area and reports any missing or damaged equipment immediately. The Professional Staff will direct and assist the R.A. Staff and other University Staff in maintaining the facilities in an orderly fashion.
d. Is responsible for changes in room assignments within the hall, during the semester.
e. Shall provide assigned office hours and scheduled after-hours/weekend coverage as assigned by the Director of Housing.
f. Works with the Office of Student Activities to promote residential and campus-wide events within the residential area.
g. Handles other administrative duties such as: key assignments, ordering new keys, requesting rekeying of rooms, door access control, etc.
h. Supervises distribution of campus information and distribution of mail to residents.
i. Prepares housing registration and assignment information for billing.
j. Develops work schedules for Resident Assistants, Office Assistants, and Duty Assistants within guidelines established.
k. Administers and monitors assigned Residential Life budgets.
l. Prepares reports as needed.
m. Represents Housing & Residential Life, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University by serving on committees and by attending conferences, workshops, and meetings on or off-campus as needed.
n. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant Residential Life or Student Affairs experience is required along with the ability to relate effectively to resident college students and staff. A master’s degree is preferred. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

Compensation and Employee Benefits
The Residence Hall Director is compensated at the Administrator 2, salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF)].
