The Research Scientist is a core member of the ETS Research Skills Center, contributing to research that advance the scientific foundations, measurement, and integration of durable skills across learning systems. The role focuses on:
Contributing to the development of frameworks and learning progressions for complex skills
Collaborating in co-designing innovative skills assessment or learning materials with diverse stakeholders
Supporting the integration of digital tools and AI-driven methods in assessment and learning interventions
Applying equity-centered principles in innovative intervention design
Conducting rigorous research and disseminating research results through publications, presentations, or client engagement

Primary Responsibilities

Co-lead or contribute to research programs that build scientific foundations for complex and durable skills
Apply design-based research to help design, implement, and evaluate innovative skills assessment prototypes
Support efforts to integrate durable skills into disciplinary learning and assessment interventions
Assist in the development and evaluation of AI-enabled assessments, learning and teaching innovations under the guidance of the center lead
Generate research insights that inform ETS products, services, and research priorities related to skills measurement
Document and disseminate research results through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and client-facing engagement.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to contribute to a culture of interdisciplinary teamwork
Contribute to proposal development and pursue external funding opportunities
Engage in professional relationships and external scholarly communities to strengthen ETSs visibility

Required Experience:

Preferred candidate possesses several of the following qualifications:

Expertise in learning and/or assessment innovation development, preferably in the education sector.
Use of educational technology in digital assessment or learning tools.
Experience in assessment prototyping or AI applications
Experience in designing, developing, and validating assessment or learning tools with actionable feedback
Experience in mixed method research.
Ability to rapidly learn and apply new knowledge and skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Evidence of scholarly productivity (publications and conference presentations).

Education

Ph.D. in educational psychology, industrial-organizational psychology, learning sciences, quantitative psychology, or a related discipline may be considered.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
Research or development experience with skills assessment design or research is preferred.
Experience contributing to externally funded research projects or research-practice partnerships

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
