JOB SUMMARY
The Vascular Immunology Laboratory of Laurel Y. Lee, M.D., D.Phil. in the Division of Cardiology at the Department of Medicine is looking for a Research Assistant I. Dr. Lee's basic and translational science laboratory is dedicated to understanding the immune- and metabolism-mediated mechanisms underlying vascular disorders with the ultimate goal of improving how we protect our patients' blood vessels against heart attack, stroke, or limb loss. We integrate multidisciplinary approaches, including molecular and biochemical analyses of immune-vascular crosstalk in vitro and in vivo, cellular metabolism and systems biology all guided by the challenges identified in clinical cardiology.
Successful candidates will become integral parts of the Laurel Lee Lab and actively contribute to the Lab's scientific discoveries and publications. We are looking for a qualified candidate who will work closely with the principal investigator to provide technical support and help maintain the lab. Prior basic science research experience and mouse work is strongly preferred.
Specific duties:
- Perform more advanced experiments in science areas, including molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and other related fields
- Maintain and organize mouse colonies and perform mouse experiments per lab protocol
- Record scientific data obtained from assigned experiments in an organized lab notebook and review with supervisor
- Read literature and confers with supervisor for new procedure implementations
- Work with supervisor and other lab members for preparing scientific publications
- Support lab operations through various activities, including ordering reagents, maintaining laboratory areas, and lab equipment maintenance
- May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
Master's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or
Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment. or
Completion of 2 years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
High School Graduation or GED- Experience
1 year Research experience at level of Research Technician or equivalent with Bachelor's degree. or
4 years Research experience including two years at level of Research Technician or equivalent with 2 years of college. or
6 years Research experience with High School Diploma. or
2 years at level of Research Technician or equivalent.
JOB DUTIES
- Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
- Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.
- Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.
- Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.
- Collects and organizes research data for project reports.
- May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
