Qualifications & Requirements

Proven sales and customer service experience with strong time-management skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of construction and rental equipment.
B2B field sales experience preferred.
CDL Class A (combination vehicle with air brakes) or willingness to obtain.
Self-motivated, outgoing, and results-driven.
Strong computer and administrative skills.
Ability to self-train and continuously learn equipment applications.
Ability to physically load and unload equipment as required.
Availability to work required hours, generally 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Mon-Fri.

Job Title: Rental Manager - Des Moines

Reports To: President

Position Overview

The Rental Manager is responsible for overseeing rental operations, including fleet management, employee supervision, customer service, and safety compliance. This role ensures profitable utilization of rental equipment while delivering exceptional customer service. The Rental Manager also supports facility maintenance responsibilities and maintains driver compliance files for the Des Moines and Ames locations.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

Manage customer rental needs in person, by phone, and during delivery and pickup.
Serve as the primary rental sales contact and customer liaison.
Promote rental equipment to meet utilization targets.
Communicate customer equipment usage and future needs to sales staff.
Review rental contracts and billings for accuracy.
Monitor customer credit status and follow up on collections as needed.
Recommend rental-to-purchase conversions for qualified customers.


Fleet & Equipment Management

Manage rental fleet inventory, availability, and utilization.
Forecast fleet requirements based on reservations, schedules, and demand.
Recommend acquisition of additional equipment supported by utilization data and lost rental analysis.
Identify and recommend disposal of underperforming assets.
Coordinate equipment transfers between branches.
Conduct and coordinate physical inventories as required.


Maintenance & Safety

Oversee preventative maintenance programs for rental equipment.
Coordinate maintenance for equipment on long-term rent and fleet equipment not currently rented.
Ensure all rental equipment and vehicles meet safety standards.
Maintain shop tools and equipment to support a safe, efficient work environment.
Conduct biweekly departmental safety meetings.
Train employees and customers on safe and proper equipment operation.


Leadership & Operations

Hire, train, supervise, and discipline employees as necessary.
Coordinate daily operations with the Assistant Rental Manager/Rental Coordinator.
Maintain driver qualification and compliance files for Des Moines and Ames.
Coordinate assembly and pre-delivery inspection of new equipment for sales.
Utilize rental management software to evaluate market conditions and fleet performance.
Complete required documentation including rental agreements, delivery receipts, quotes, call reports, and expense reports.
Attend required training, meetings, networking events, and industry functions.
Be available for management assignments, branch travel, and special projects.
Respond to after-hours customer calls when the store is closed.
