Location:Bronx, NY
Job Type: Contract
Pay Rate: $28 – $32 per hour (Based on Experience)

Schedule

  • Shift: Day Shift

  • Hours: 7 Hours per Day (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

  • Days: 5 Days per Week

  • Total Weekly Hours: 35 Hours

  • Work Arrangement: Remote (Initial 1–2 weeks onsite training required)


Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder – Inpatient to support medical coding operations in an acute care hospital environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing patient records and assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10, CPT-4, and related coding systems.

This role requires experience with EPIC and 3M/HDS coding platforms and close collaboration with Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) to ensure accurate documentation, compliance, and coding integrity.


Responsibilities

  • Perform inpatient medical coding for hospital patient records

  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT-4, and procedure codes

  • Review clinical documentation to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal billing guidelines

  • Utilize EPIC and 3M/HDS encoder systems for coding and record review

  • Identify and resolve coding discrepancies or documentation issues

  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) to clarify documentation queries

  • Ensure compliance with payer guidelines and healthcare regulatory standards

  • Maintain established productivity and quality benchmarks

  • Assist with coding knowledge sharing or training when required

  • Maintain expertise in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes


Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED – Required

  • Certification from AHIMA or equivalent credentialing organization

Certifications

One of the following certifications is required:

  • CCS – Certified Coding Specialist

  • RHIA – Registered Health Information Administrator

  • RHIT – Registered Health Information Technician

  • CCP – Certified Coding Professional

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of medical coding experience

  • Strong inpatient hospital coding experience required

  • Emergency Department (ED) coding experience preferred

  • Experience using EPIC and 3M/HDS coding applications required

  • Prior collaboration with Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) preferred


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding standards and guidelines

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and coding software tools

  • Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

  • Ability to research complex coding scenarios and resolve issues

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within healthcare teams
