Join a team of dedicated professionals whose mission is to provide high quality care to our adoptable shelter pets! Helen Woodward Animal Center is a diverse facility whose many facets work towards promoting people helping animals and animals helping people. Our Adoptions department is a state of the art medical facility with in-house equipment at your disposal. In this role, you will help oversee and mentor our Vet Assistant staff and administrative support staff within the shelter.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in surgery including anesthesia induction, intubation, animal prep, extubation and monitoring recovery.
- Perform dental cleanings and extractions as directed by the veterinarian
- Radiograph animals and ensure that radiographs are of a diagnostic quality
- Go offsite and perform offsite duties, including overnight offsite trips
- Perform routine medical procedures and monitor sick and/injured patients and communicate findings with veterinarian
- Practice all medical protocols under strict safety standards and correct any lazy or disjointed practices among yourself or others immediately
- Solutions/results oriented and passionate about meeting individual and team goals
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure that all hospital areas are properly cleaned, maintained, well stocked and perform weekly inventory of supplies and medications
- Follow safety and sanitation policies at all times.
- Maintain a current RVT license with up to date CE
The ideal candidate would have:
- A Current CA RVT License
- At least 6 months hands on experience in a veterinary environment (other than schooling)
- Required knowledge with regards to radiography, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, pharmacology, laboratory and medicine as it pertains to small animal medicine
- Ability to properly operate X-ray machine, develop radiographs and determine quality
- Knowledge of anesthesia and ability to operate anesthesia machine
- Knowledge of small animal husbandry and restraint
- Ability to work in a fast paced, continuously changing environment
- Ability to follow written and oral veterinarian orders without direct supervision
