We're Hiring!

We are seeking a Recreation Specialist to join our team within our Residential program. This full-time position is responsible for implementing and facilitating recreational, leisure and skills activities that broaden clients' interests and develop individual skills based on unique client needs. Skill development includes social skills, fine and gross motor development and physical coordination. Hours for this position are Monday-Friday, mostly daytime hours. Shifts are 9am to 5pm and/or 10am to 6pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the provision of recreation groups which include, but are not limited to physical education, skills groups, independent skills programming, etc.
  • Assist in the planning and development of recreational/leisure activity schedules that will broaden client's interests and enhance skill development. Activities are to be scheduled both in the community and onsite and include a variety of activities to avoid constant repetition.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Therapy Team by providing expertise of clients' skills, abilities and behaviors on the unit.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's or bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or related field

Experience:

  • Required: 1+ years of work experience providing supervision and mentorship to severely emotionally disturbed adolescents

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of family dynamics, abuse, neglect, criminality and social dysfunction.
  • Experience with client services which embrace family support concepts and demonstrate an attitude that is accepting, non-judgmental and culturally competent.
  • Respect for families of diverse socio-economic status, race, ethnicity and ability to engage them in dialogue regarding personal issues.
  • Attend all required trainings per policy and as determined by program leadership. Must complete a minimum of 24 hours of continued training annually.
  • Complete and maintain certification in Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid with alleviation of choking, CBRF Fire Safety, program approved verbal de-escalation training, and the program approved crisis intervention and physical intervention methods.
  • State regulations require staff to be 21 years or older.
