The Anchorage Pioneer Home (APH)
is recruiting for Recreation Assistant
located in Anchorage, Alaska.
This position is an integral part of a highly motivated and customer service-oriented team in support of the Anchorage Pioneer Home, an assisted living home with up to one-hundred seventy-seven (177) elder residents.

What You Will Be Doing: This position is part of a healthcare team who plans, organizes, and directs recreational programs and special event activities in the Pioneer Home, a long-term care facility. This position performs a variety of recreation related tasks involving elder residents in activities to promote, maintain or restore their physical and mental health. This includes the treatment and rehabilitation of residents with various physical or mental abilities.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This job is in the Anchorage Pioneer Home, an assisted living home at 923 W. 11th Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska. It overlooks an area known as the Park Strip with views of the Chugach Mountains easily visible from most floors of the home.
Who We Are Looking For: Position-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that are desired or contribute to the success in this position:
- Experience in volunteer recruitment and coordination in support of elder care; conducting ongoing publicity efforts to recruit appropriate volunteers from the community to participate in workgroups within the assisted living home in connection with recreation activity programs.
- Experience with organizing, coordinating and executing large volunteer and group events and activities such as volunteer appreciation and recognition activities; as well as planning and coordination of seasonal, holiday and special events with the elder residents.
- Ability to initiate and maintain daily group recreation programs and individual activities such as cooking activities, arts and crafts, community outings, exercise classes, parties, music programs, and the like for elder residents with or without cognitive or mobility impairments.
- Knowledge of assessing elder residents as to their needs, interests and abilities for involvement in therapeutic activity programs.
- Skills and experience in general office and clerical tasks, such as answering the phone, taking messages, creating or editing documents, preparation and maintenance of activity areas, serving refreshments, inventory and ordering supplies, maintaining supplies and equipment and other related duties.

- This position is in support of the Pioneer Home, which is a 24-hour facility.
- This Pioneer Home is an Eden Alternative facility, where the environment includes contact with plants, flowers, and pets including cats, dogs, fish and birds.
- Employees of the Pioneer Home receive continual screening for tuberculosis and criminal history.
