Overview
The Recovery Support Specialist (Housing) plays a vital role in supporting individuals living in Chestnut’s mental health housing programs as they work toward stability, independence, and self-directed recovery. This position provides hands-on, recovery-oriented services in a residential setting while modeling hope, empowerment, and trauma-informed care.
This part-time position will work Monday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00am to 3:30pm and be based in Granite City, IL.
This role works closely with consumers, housing staff, and community partners to promote wellness, safety, and engagement in services.

Responsibilities
Model, practice, and promote a recovery-oriented approach grounded in trauma-informed care, hope, respect, empowerment, wellness, and connectedness
Support consumers in developing personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and confidence through professional, compassionate interactions
Provide consumer-driven services identified in treatment, recovery, and safety plans while maintaining at least 65% productivity of available time
Teach and reinforce recovery tools, including Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), and utilize recovery-focused language in all documentation
Assist consumers with referrals, linkage, and advocacy to community resources, natural supports, internal programs, and discharge placements that promote independence
Promote positive relationships within Chestnut and with community partners, including substance use providers, hospitals, medical staff, and Medicaid partners
Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with program and funder requirements, including:
Progress notes and required data entry (80% within 48 hours of service delivery)
Medication Administration Records completed in real time
Thorough and timely shift reports
Participate in meetings, consumer staffings, program development activities, and required supervision and trainings
Answer incoming calls, manage messages and mail, and monitor video surveillance equipment when applicable
Collaborate with coworkers, supervisors, facility staff, and tenants to maintain a safe, clean, and supportive living environment
Maintain confidentiality and protect all consumer and organizational information
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of five years of personal lived recovery experience.
- Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with personal lived recovery experience.
- Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in good standing with the State of Illinois, if applicable.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Word and experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Valid driver’s license, private automobile insurance, and insurability.
- Ability to work at multiple housing sites and cover assignments at other locations in advance or in response to urgent staffing needs.

The anticipated starting pay for new hires for this position is between $21.00 - $22.00 an hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in determining base pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, skills, education, experience, local market conditions, and internal equity.
