Job Summary

The Ready-Mix Plant Superintendent is responsible for the overall supervision of one or more ready-mix plants or departments. Main duties will include production oversight, operational improvements, and employee leadership with strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance. This position works closely with other departments, i.e. Sales, Finance, Environmental, Safety and Human Resources.

Compensation

Annual Salary $90,000 to $120,000. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee ready-mix plant operation activities
  • Supervise up to 20 employees
  • Comply with and enforces governmental rules and regulations, Union Contract, company policies and procedures
  • Coordinate, consult and maintain continuity of Plant operations with General Manager, Quality Control and Maintenance
  • Provide safety training and development of all personnel, including training, certifications, staffing and performance evaluations
  • Enforce all Safety and Environmental programs and policies
  • Environmental, OSHA, MSHA, Department of Transportation (DOT) and other regulatory compliance
  • Involvement with Capital Equipment budgeting
  • Oversee plant and equipment maintenance
  • Close collaboration with General Manager in areas of goal-setting, sales, customer service, and staff development
  • Direct, coach and develop employees and ensure company policy compliance
  • Annual budgeting for locations
  • Oversee truck shops at locations
  • Track productivity, produce reports and perform analytics as required

Education

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Mining or Civil Engineering or equivalent field a plus
  • Any relevant operations management certifications, i.e. industry specific management training

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience running a ready-mix operation, including ancillary functions such yard production and product delivery
  • Experience with OSHA/MSHA regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
  • Experience managing groups of employees in one or more locations
  • Experience implementing training programs for drivers including driving technique, truck maintenance, product delivery, ticketing, payments and customer service
  • Personnel management experience, i.e. hiring and selection, performance reviews, wage issues, discipline, and legal compliance requirements a plus
  • Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills aptitude
  • Strong oral and written communications skills aptitude
  • Customer service orientation

Preferred:

  • Experience in a vertically integrated construction materials organization preferred
  • Experience with SAP

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
