The Radiation Dosimetry Core (RDC) of the Division of Radiotherapy Physics within the Department of Medical Physics has an opportunity available at the Assistant or Associate Attending Physicist level (equivalent to Assistant or Associate Professor). This position will primarily support radiation oncology physics services at the MSK-Manhattan facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
- Actively participate in RDC activities and collaborate with Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology colleagues to support clinical care;
- Actively support major equipment quality assurance (QA), commissioning, and acceptance of radiotherapy equipment;
- Actively participate in the quality assurance and the policies of radiotherapy equipment;
- Actively support specialized clinical procedures such as TBI and TSEB;
- Participate in new technology evaluation and implementation;
- Coordinate with other department members, including Biomedical Engineering, Molecular and X-Ray Imaging, MRI & Spectroscopy, SKI radiation facilities, Medical Health Physics, and Medical Physics Computer Services for the services the RDC provides;
- Actively participate in technology decisions and the overall budget process related to personnel and equipment to perform the work of the RDC throughout our network;
- Participate in the RDC mission to establish translational research directions for the RDC;
- Train medical physics staff and residents in QA activities.
MSK Manhattan:
- Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan
- 9 conventional linear accelerators, 2 CBCT-based adaptive linear accelerators, 1 MR-linac, 3 HDR units, 1 superficial radiotherapy unit, 3 CT simulators, 1 PET/CT, and 2 3T MR simulators dedicated to radiation oncology procedures, along with state-of-the-art inter- and intra-fractional imaging and motion management capabilities.
- The Manhattan physics team comprises over 75 staff, including faculty-level physicists, MS physicists, and dosimetrists.
- The development and implementation of adaptive radiotherapy
- The development and clinical use of predictive models (tumor control and normal tissue complication probability) in treatment planning
- The Integration of MR and PET imaging into radiotherapy decision-making and treatment planning
- The development and implementation of 4D imaging and motion management
- The development of informatics-based adaptive radiotherapy processes
- The automation in radiotherapy and QA
- The innovation in quality and safety for patient care.
Candidates are required to have:
- Ph.D. in physics, medical physics, or a related field.
- ABR Certification or be ABR eligible.
- A strong clinical background and demonstrated ability and interest in clinical research.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
