Job Summary

  • Wellstar Cobb in Austell, Georgia is seeking a Weekend Registered Radiology Technologist.
  • This position will work Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am - 7:30pm, and Monday from 6:30am - 3:00pm.
  • This position will receive specialty differential for working in radiology.
  • This position will receive evening and weekend shift differentials.
  • The Registered Radiology Technologist must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
  • Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
  • Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care by performing all exams according to department procedures.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
  • Able to independently perform job functions.
  • Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patient for the procedure.
  • Position is eligible for Sign On Bonus and Relocation.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Equipment

  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the lowest possible radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment following infection control policy and department schedule.
  • Ability to operate all aspects of the system.
  • Ability to operate all radiographic equipment safely and competently; ensures equipment is not abused and remains in good working order.

Patient Care

  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias when applicable.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and correct use of right/left markers.
  • Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains crash cart and life support equipment when applicable.
  • Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed when applicable.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates when physician intervention is necessary.
  • Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order per policy.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort.
  • Demonstrates competence in selecting and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to meet required activity timelines.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out when applicable.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for the procedure.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique when applicable.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture when applicable.

Education and Communication

  • Uses AIDET to clearly explain procedures and reduce anxiety.
  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
  • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures to patients.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and precise.
  • Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through with assignments.
  • Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting.

Quality Control

  • Consistently produces high-quality images with appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational by checking calibration and operational status prior to each use.
  • Sends all studies to PACS and prints CDs as necessary.
  • Ensures all exams are complete in RIS: oriented, marked, labeled and documented accurately.
  • Prints and scans teleradiography studies when applicable.
  • Checks for prior exams, ensures they are loaded and appropriately labeled before sending to PACS.

Operations

  • Restocks linens and supplies; maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports patients, positions them and assists them on and off procedure table.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Willingly provides knowledge and assistance when requested and when time allows.
  • Performs clerical and support duties when needed to maintain continuity and quality of services.
  • Keeps supervisor informed and promptly reports potential problems.
  • Maintains individual productivity equal to coworkers.
  • Meets Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards.
  • Transfers and retrieves images in the PACS system.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology - Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)

  • ARRT Radiography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association

Required Minimum Experience

  • Entry-level position - Required
