POSITION TITLE: Quality Control Technician
REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager
DEPARTMENT: Quality
WAGE CATEGORY: Hourly - Non-Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with all aspects of the inspection, examination, evaluation, sampling, testing, and processing of inbound and in-process raw materials and finished goods products based on all Company guidelines and SOPs related to quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with Operations and Production personnel to process inbound raw materials and finished goods products related to all aspects to quality.
- Follow all SOPs related to marking and identifying raw materials and finished goods based on their pre- and post-quality inspection classifications.
- Assisting with the timely and efficient disposition of all raw materials as directed by Vice President of Quality and/or the Director of Quality.
- Ensure all required documentation and paperwork is complete, accurate, organized, and properly routed.
- Support the Quality team in collecting and maintaining all department documentation and data collection
- Ensure all pre- and post-inspection raw material and products are properly staged in the appropriate areas and properly labeled and identified
- Responsible for performing plant and packaging equipment sanitation inspections and evaluations
- Responsible for the inspection and evaluation of all product labels for accuracy
- Performing plant sanitation periodic inspection in relation to Starwest Botanical compliance to all FDA, State or Local Regulations.
- Other general quality-related, warehouse-related, and food production facility duties as assigned by management.

- Must always follow all Company Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), while also maintaining all GMP, FDA and OSHA standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate. Science background helpful.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must be able to count effectively and accurately (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team and work independently without direct supervision.
- Must be highly organized as well as an effective and responsive communicator (verbally and written)
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or Chemistry
- Experience in the organic natural foods industry
- Experience in the botanical products industry
- Familiarity with GFSI, GMP, HACCP programs, and FDA, State and County regulations for food manufacturing.
- Some knowledge of chemistry, biology, or other natural science. Should have the ability to understand and act on statistical concepts, i.e., averages, sampling plans, variability, standard deviation, population vs sample, etc.
ENVIRONMENT:
- 95% or more of the time performing job duties is spent indoors within a warehouse, laboratory, and production facility environment.
- While performing job duties, the employee works near or around material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet-jacks), moving mechanical parts, belt-driven equipment, pressurized gas equipment, laboratory equipment, and other forms of electrical equipment.
- Noise level is the work environment is usually moderate.
- The temperature of the work environment can range from approximately 50 to 100+ degrees F.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Continuously (80-100%): standing, walking, hand use, finger dexterity.
- Frequently (50-80%): crouching, kneeling, reaching
- Often (20-50%): lift, carry, push, and pull 55 lbs.
- Sometimes (5-20%): confined sitting
- Rarely (less than 5%): sampling, stacking, and standing outside
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT:
- Continuously (80-100%): tape sealing devices, shrink-wrap devices
- Frequently (50-80%): hand trucks, order carts
- Often (20-50%): computers, printers
- Sometimes (5-20%): laboratory equipment
TRAVEL
- This is an on-site position in Sacramento. No travel or remote work is planned for this position.
