Now Hiring: Purchasing Supervisor
Employment Type: Full‑Time
Salary Range: $89,500 - $122,750 annually
Reports To: Purchasing Manager / Director
Supervises: Buyers
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Supervisor to lead daily purchasing operations while actively supporting project and internal procurement needs. This role functions as a Buyer, internal/project support partner, and people leader, ensuring materials and services are sourced efficiently to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, cost, and schedule.
The Purchasing Supervisor serves as a team leader and strategic partner, working closely with Buyers and internal customers to deliver a turnkey procurement solution while driving continuous improvement, cost control, and supplier performance.
What You'll Do
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support a team of Buyers responsible for project‑based or internal support purchasing
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new team members
- Collaborate daily with Buyers to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on schedule
- Identify issues, risks, and opportunities; recommend solutions to Purchasing leadership
Purchasing & Contract Oversight
- Oversee subcontract review, including non‑union requests, bond reviews, and redline negotiations
- Resolve billing disputes between Project Managers and suppliers; escalate issues as needed
- Manage supplier‑caused delays by ensuring proper notification, documentation, and cost accountability
- Maintain awareness of market conditions related to pricing, service levels, and product availability
Cost Management & Supplier Performance
- Work with Buyers to update and maintain unit cost pricing databases
- Identify cost‑reduction opportunities and analyze the financial impact of pricing changes
- Track costs using unit‑based measurements and evaluate market trends
- Develop and maintain reports to support supplier management and team performance
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships
Other Responsibilities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within purchasing operations
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in materials, production, or purchasing
- Knowledge of Supply Chain Management practices
Technical & Industry Knowledge
- Understanding of issuing and managing:
- Subcontracts
- HVAC equipment
- PVF and fire sprinkler materials
- Plumbing, process piping, and site utilities
- Field technician and job‑site support
- Commodities and invoice processing
- Experience working with procurement and bid‑tracking systems
- Proficient‑plus user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills
- Excellent business writing skills with proper grammar and terminology
- Strong customer service mindset
