The Purchasing / Procurement Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for large-scale union electrical construction projects. This role supports project managers, estimators, and field leadership to ensure timely delivery of materials while maintaining cost control, quality standards, and compliance with union agreements and project specifications.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction procurement, understands job-site logistics, and can operate effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Sourcing:
  • Source and purchase electrical materials including switchgear, conduit, wire/cable, lighting, controls, low-voltage systems, and specialty equipment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers, and vendors.
  • Solicit competitive bids and negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Issue purchase orders and ensure accurate documentation within ERP/accounting systems.
  • Track and manage long-lead items to avoid project delays.
  • Coordinate bulk purchasing strategies across multiple projects to leverage volume discounts.

Project Support:
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to review material takeoffs and budgets.
  • Align purchasing decisions with project labor schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure materials meet project specifications, (National Electrical Code) NEC standards, and local code requirements.
  • Support change orders and job cost tracking through accurate purchasing documentation.
  • Resolve material discrepancies, returns, and warranty claims.

Vendor & Contract Management:
  • Evaluate vendor performance (price, reliability, service, quality).
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and rebate programs.
  • Monitor supply chain risks and develop alternate sourcing strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with union agreements, project labor agreements, (Project Labor Agreements) (PLAs), and customer procurement requirements.

Inventory & Logistics:
  • Coordinate deliveries to job sites and warehouse facilities.
  • Manage inventory levels for stock items and prefabrication needs.
  • Support warehouse operations and prefabrication teams with material planning.
  • Monitor freight costs and optimize shipping methods.

Financial & Administrative:
  • Maintain accurate purchase records and job cost coding.
  • Review invoices against purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Assist accounting with vendor reconciliation and payment inquiries.
  • Track material cost trends and report variances to leadership.
  • Support year-end vendor evaluations and cost-saving initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • 4–8+ years of purchasing experience in commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical materials and equipment.
  • Experience working with union contractors or within a union environment.
  • Proficiency with Sage accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with (Autodesk Construction Cloud ) ACC, Procore and Bluebeam software
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Preferred:
  • Experience with large commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center, or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with prefabrication material planning.
  • Understanding of prevailing wage and project labor agreements.
  • APICS or supply chain certification (a plus).
