Purchasing Assistant (Hybrid – Detroit, MI)

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to support high-volume purchasing and accounts payable operations within a fast-paced business environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured setting, enjoys working with data and vendors, and can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
This is a hybrid role based in Detroit, MI, with at least 1 day onsite per week (more frequent during initial training).
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a primary point of contact for invoice processing inquiries, resolving issues with internal teams and external vendors
- Process full-cycle Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) activities with accuracy and efficiency
- Create and manage:
- Shopping carts
- Purchase orders
- Goods/service receipts
- Review and maintain:
- Parked invoice lists
- GR/IR reports
- Investigate and resolve vendor payment inquiries, ensuring timely follow-up
- Process invoices and support vendor maintenance updates
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information
- Screen and prioritize communications (email, calls, requests)
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure all work aligns with company policies, timelines, and cost-efficiency goals
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma required (Associate degree preferred)
- 2–5 years of administrative, purchasing, or accounting experience
- Strong experience in accounts payable/receivable preferred
- Ability to manage high-volume transactional data with accuracy
- Solid understanding of:
- Business correspondence
- Basic accounting principles
- Intermediate proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Database systems and online tools
- Experience with SAP and/or SharePoint is a plus
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and within a matrixed organization
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and vendors
