Position Overview
The Pump Technician Apprentice supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial water pump systems. Working directly alongside an experienced Pump Technician, this role provides hands-on training in plumbing, electrical connections, troubleshooting, and field service operations.
This position is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and motivated to grow toward independent licensure and long-term career advancement in the pump and well service industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with installation of complete water pump systems, including plumbing and electrical components.
- Learn to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair pump system issues in the field.
- Load, unload, and restock pump truck daily to ensure readiness for scheduled work.
- Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections using WhipAround; communicate maintenance needs with mechanics.
- Fuel pump truck and check all required fluids daily, including generator fluids.
- Conduct well flow tests and assist in system performance evaluations.
- Perform ditch work, including installation of water lines, electrical lines, and conduit.
- Cut in pitless adapters and trim well casing as directed.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
- Deliver excellent customer service and represent the company professionally at all times.
- Assist in other roles as needed, including driller helper duties.
- Maintain trainee card, track CEUs, report hours, and actively work toward obtaining O3 license certification.
- Participate in ongoing technical training (in-person and online) to stay current with industry standards.
- Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and uphold company safety standards, including reporting near misses and incidents promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted and perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Reliable and punctual with consistent attendance.
- Maintain active electrical and plumbing trainee licenses.
- Basic knowledge of welding and cutting preferred.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and hand tools.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
