The Project Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of heavy civil infrastructure projects-including excavation, grading, site preparation, roadwork, and related scopes. This role oversees project planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, team coordination, safety, quality, client communication, and contract administration to ensure each project is completed safely, on time, and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and scopes of work using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Coordinate and manage civil construction operations such as site preparation, excavation, grading, milling, patching and related scopes.
- Lead the project from preconstruction through execution and closeout.
FinancialManagement
- Establish and manage project budgets, cost control processes, and forecasting.
- Prepare and manage change orders, progress billings, invoices, and financial reporting.
- Ensure projects meet financial performance targets and maintain profitability.
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and support superintendents, field crews, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, accountability, and communication.
- Ensure proper resource allocation, staffing, and material availability throughout the project.
Risk Management & Quality Control
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Enforce site specific safety plans and regulatory compliance (e.g., MSHA, OSHA).
- Conduct site inspections to verify work quality, adherence to plans, and compliance with standards.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, clients, and general contractors.
- Lead project meetings, provide updates, and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain strong business relationships to support repeat work and client satisfaction.
Procurement & Contract Administration
- Oversee subcontractor bidding, contract negotiation, and purchase orders.
- Manage project documentation, submittals, RFIs, and all contractual requirements.
- Support accurate recordkeeping and ensure contract compliance.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare progress reports, cost updates, schedules, and risk assessments.
- Maintain organized digital files and contribute to monthly project reviews.
- Support project closeout through final documentation, punch lists, and turnover packages.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision making abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, field operations, and equipment.
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling software.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, cost control, and financial management.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations and site specific safety planning.
- Experience managing large scale civil, earthwork, grading, marine, utility, or roadway projects.
