This Project Accountant oversees the financial activity of construction projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. This role involves close collaboration with project managers and operations teams to manage invoices, reconcile expenses, and maintain accurate project financials.
Client Details
My client is a well‑established construction company that manages and delivers a wide range of commercial and residential building projects. They collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and on‑site teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget.Description
Manage the financial performance of assigned construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
Prepare and maintain accurate project financial reports, job cost summaries, and variance analyses.
Review, code, and process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders.
Work closely with project managers to monitor project progress, reconcile expenses, and ensure alignment with budgets.
Support monthly billing processes, including preparing invoices and ensuring timely submission to clients.
Maintain organized project documentation, contracts, and financial records in accordance with company policies.
Assist with month‑end close activities related to project financials.
Identify discrepancies and proactively resolve issues related to project costs or billing.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial procedures.
Profile
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry or a project‑based environment.
Strong understanding of job costing, project budgeting, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar systems).
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with project managers and field teams.
- Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
