What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Professional Staff Assistant 1 level or the 2 level, depending on the skills and education of the selected candidate.

The Plutonium Supply and Disposition Division (PSD) is looking for a motivated, customer-focused, professional, efficient, reliable, organized, and experienced Professional Staff Assistant to support the Metal Production (PSD-1) team. You will interact daily with the Group Leader, First Line Managers, and the administrative team in the organization. You will be responsible for providing advanced-level support to the management team in various areas, including administration, finance, HR, communications, and project management. You are expected to conduct daily business with minimal supervision, demonstrating accuracy, attention to detail, initiative, versatility, tact, and confidentiality.

You must be a motivated performer capable of quickly changing focus, working independently or as part of a team as needed, and comfortable with a broadly defined scope of work. You should be able to manage your workload and productivity to meet deliverables with quick turnaround deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including networking with key contacts outside of area of professional expertise. Excellent leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to delegate and train others.

The work is conducted in a busy, fast-paced team environment that requires close cooperation, adaptability, taking initiative in completing tasks, and a willingness to provide support where needed.

Professional Staff Assistant 1 ($66,100 - $103,600)

Professional Staff Assistant 2 ($72,800 - $115,400)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will be expected to perform senior-level administrative support and office management in a complex office environment. You will also be expected to make independent decisions and demonstrate an advanced ability to research, analyze and solve complex issues both as an individual and in a team environment. Act as a resource and mentor to administrative support staff.

Executive Support
  • Extensive experience providing advanced, executive-level administrative support. Proven teamwork skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization, including colleagues, peers, customers, and internal and external stakeholders. Provides executive-level support in specialized areas such as complex calendar management, procurement, domestic and foreign travel coordination, complex meeting and visit logistics, HR hiring actions, and the development and management of staffing plans.

  • Advanced experience and ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through on multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment characterized by strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and shifting priorities. Education/Experience at Professional Staff Assistant 1: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Undergraduate coursework may be expected at this level.

Education/Experience at Professional Staff Assistant 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in multiple laboratory-wide business systems (e.g., Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur, and iProcurement) and computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Knowledge of Laboratory structure, administrative policies and procedures
  • Active DOE Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is on site and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: The position commitment for this position is 1 year. Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). The selected applicants will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matters. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
