Definition
The production worker provides support daily for manufacturing operations through the safe operation of equipment, proper handling of raw and finished products, and adherence to established quality, food safety, and sanitation requirements.
- Work schedules, including shift assignments and weekend coverage, are determined by production requirements and administered in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Overtime may be required based on the business needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production and Equipment Operation
- Operate basic production and packaging equipment in accordance with established procedures
- Load, unload, and monitor machinery to ensure proper and safe operation
- Perform routine equipment checks and promptly report issues or malfunctions
- Follow production schedules and meet established hourly and daily output targets
Quality and Food Safety
- Handle meat products in compliance with USDA regulations and company food safety standards
- Perform visual quality inspections to identify defects, damage, or inconsistencies
- Follow product specification, labeling, and packaging requirements with accuracy
- Maintain proper product traceability and lot identification in accordance with established procedures
Computer and Documentation Tasks
- Use basic computer systems or touchscreens to interfaces to record production data, track and document weights, counts, and yields accurately, and complete required production documentation in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate production logs, checklists, and reports
Sanitation and Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area throughout the shift
- Follow all sanitation, hygiene, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Participate in daily cleaning tasks and end-of-shift sanitation activities
- Comply with all safety procedures and promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or injuries.
Teamwork and Communication
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members to achieve production goals.
- Communicate promptly any issues related to product quality, equipment, or workflow
- Support cross-training initiatives and provide assistance in other production areas as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Food Manufacturing Experience
- Safely operate basic production or packaging machinery
- Possess basic computer skills, including data entry, touchscreen systems, or production software
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, cold, and refrigerated environment
- Lift up to 30 lbs. with or without assistance
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
Working Conditions
- Cold or refrigerated production environment
- Exposure to raw meat product
- Noise levels consistent with industrial equipment
- Required use of PPE, including gloves, hairnets, smocks, and safety equipment
Physical Demands
The employee must use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks
