POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Production, the Production Overhire supports student and community performances and events at Third Street Music School, including performances, recitals, and master classes. These can take place at both on-site and off-site performances. This is an "on-call" position with shifts assigned in advanced as needed.
DUTIES
Depending on skills and experience, overhires may be assigned to the following:
Stagehand – Assist with the setup, breakdown, stage changes, and movement of stage equipment, instruments, audio gear, and microphones for performances. Works closely with production leads.
Live Sound Engineer – Sets up and operates wired/wireless microphones, speakers, and mixing consoles for larger groups. Manages sound checks, troubleshoots audio issues, and interfaces with production leads and artists to anticipate needs.
Video Operator – Operates PTZ cameras, monitors streaming software, and video feeds, mixes basic audio. Basic video mixing experience is a plus.
Lighting Technician – Sets up and focuses stage lighting, operates ETC lighting consoles, and adjusts lighting as needed during performances.
Stage Manager – Oversees rehearsals and live performances, manages backstage operations, and serves as the coordinator between artists and production team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working in a concert and/or event venue as a production assistant, stagehand, or sound engineer.
- Physical ability and stamina to perform all functions of the job, including: the ability to lift, climb ladders, and to setup/breakdown objects required for each event.
- Adaptable, comfort in high-pressure situations, solution and detail oriented, eager to learn and develop skills.
- Basic knowledge of audiovisual recording equipment and best practices.
- Experience with traditional orchestra and backline equipment.
- This position will be exposed to amplified sound and theatrical lighting during performances.
- Bachelor’s degree in music, theatre, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in stage or event production
- Familiarity with ETC lighting consoles, live audio systems, and PTZ camera systems a plus. Hands-on training available.
- First Aid and CPR certified preferred, training available.
- Interest in performing arts and arts education.
SCHEDULE
- Shifts are on an "on-call" basis, typically with at least 1 months’ notice, contingent on overhire availability.
- Overhires are receive a minimum of four hours of pay per assignment.
