Description:

Industry leading food manufacturer in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Production Manager for their 2nd shift operations. This person is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of all manufacturing processes within the facility. You will lead multiple shifts of supervisors and front-line workers to achieve aggressive production targets while managing labor costs, ingredient yields, and safety KPIs. This is a high-level leadership role that requires a "big picture" mindset—you aren't just watching the lines; you are optimizing the entire supply chain from raw material intake to the final shipment. You serve as the bridge between executive leadership and the plant floor, ensuring that the facility operates as a safe, profitable, and audit-ready environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Strategy: Develop and execute production schedules that align with sales forecasts while minimizing changeover downtime and maximizing equipment OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).

  • P&L & Budget Management: Manage the departmental budget, including labor costs, overtime, and consumable supplies. Analyze "Yield" data to identify and eliminate ingredient waste.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure the plant is 100% compliant with FSMA, SQF/BRC, and OSHA standards. Partner with the Sanitation and QA Managers to guarantee a "Pathogen-Free" environment.

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma initiatives to streamline workflows, reduce "scrap" rates, and improve overall plant efficiency.

  • Talent Development: Mentor and coach Production Supervisors; build a robust succession plan and oversee the training and retention strategies for the entire production department.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with Maintenance to schedule preventative work and with R&D to successfully scale up new product launches from the benchtop to the high-speed line.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–8 years of progressive leadership in Food Manufacturing. A deep understanding of high-volume production (e.g., commercial baking, protein processing, or dairy) is essential.

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (like SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and a strong command of production math and data analysis.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and global food safety initiatives (GFSI). PCQI certification is often required.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and "influence" skills—the ability to motivate a diverse workforce and present data-driven reports to senior executives.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business, or a related technical field is typically required.

  • Problem Solving: A proven track record of resolving complex operational bottlenecks and managing crisis situations (e.g., equipment failure or supply chain disruptions).
