Position Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and patient-centered nursing care in the perioperative environment. The OR RN functions in the circulating and/or scrub role during surgical and procedural cases and ensures compliance with facility policies, AORN standards, AAAHC requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Essential Functions:
Clinical Responsibilities
· Performs pre-procedure verification and surgical time-out per policy.
· Prepares operating room with appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies.
· Circulates and/or scrubs for surgical and procedural cases.
· Maintains sterile field and ensures adherence to infection control standards.
· Monitors patient condition throughout procedure and communicates changes promptly.
· Documents intraoperative care accurately and timely.
Patient Safety & Compliance
· Ensures correct patient, procedure, and site verification.
· Adheres to medication safety and specimen handling protocols.
· Maintains compliance with AORN, AAAHC, and facility standards.
· Participates in emergency response and crisis management as needed.
Equipment & Environment Management
· Performs equipment checks and ensures proper functioning.
· Maintains safe and organized operating room environment.
· Reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately.
Qualifications
· Current Registered Nurse license in Louisiana.
· BLS certification required.
· Operating room experience preferred.
· Strong knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative standards.

· Participates in staff meetings and ongoing education.

· Assists with mentoring and orientation of new staff as appropriate.
