Principal Scientist, R&D – Analytical Science

ABOUT 

This Principal Scientist position in theFood EngineeringDivisionwithin Analytical Sciences is located at our Glenview, IL Kraft Heinz Innovation Center.This is an ideal opportunity for a scientistpassionate about leadingthe design ofexperiments, root cause analysis studies,andkinetics studies encompassing, but not limitedto,productquality andshelf-lifetesting.This position will also serve astheSME foranalytical(example: linking chemistry and sensory)data processing, analysis and modellingto elucidatekey businessinsights byleveragingadvanceddata application software, AI technologyand statisticalprinciplesfor R&Dandfield-to-shelfbusinessdecisions.The position emphasizes cross-functionalholisticproblem solvingwith R&D,Product Development,Quality, Operations and Factory personnel toidentifyneeds and developcompetitive-edgecapabilitiesadvancing KH agendafor a wide range of leading food products. 

RELATIONSHIPS (EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL): 

• Will collaboratewithinternal clients including R&D,Product Development,Quality, Operations and Factory personnel. 

• Willcollaborateandrepresent KHwellwhen workingwith external professionals fromaccreditedconsortiumsanduniversities 

• Will interact with instrumentand softwarevendors, ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturing facilities andexternal lab partners. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

• Highlyskilledindesign of experimentforcomplexfood systemsusing techniqueslikeFull Factorial, Fractional Factorial andResponse Surface Methodologies. 

• Applystatisticalmodelswith examples likeMinitab,SAS, R,Pythonand MATLABto food kinetic data to predictchanges in qualityandoptimizeprocesses 

• Deep knowledge aroundthefundamentalsofkineticssuch as substancestructure-function,food matrixmechanisms and rates ofreactionsin theareas ofenzymaticbrowning,lipid oxidation,discoloration,fermentationand others.  

• Process and interpret data for R&D and cross-functional projectseffectively using approaches such as PCA, PLSand regression tree 

• Translate complex data or large data set into effective data visualizationand presentationusing Tableau or other data visualization toolsto deliver business insights to peers, seniorleadersand stakeholders. 

• Demonstrate advanced analytical skills andhands-on experience usingcutting-edgeinstrumentations suchGC-MS and LC-MS.This involvesexpertisein the entireworkflow, from sample preparation and data acquisition to processing, statistical analysis, andcompoundcharacterization in complex food systems. 

• Apply analytical science knowledge and experience inboth hypothesis validation (targeted) and discovery-driven analysis (untargeted). 

• Preferred qualifications include:the experience to integrate multidisciplinary data such as microbiology,chemistry, physics, sensory, o-mics (metabolomics,glycomics, proteomics,andlipidomics)todrawbig pictureconclusionscriticaltoelevate R&D  

working knowledge offood manufacturing and packaging 

• Demonstrate critical thinking skills 

• Communicate effectively and openly while working in a cross-functional team 

• Must be a self-starterandresourceful  

• Must be organized, process orientated 

• Independently and collaborativelyexecuting innovation,cost saving,processand productimprovementsthroughoutKHportfolio.  

• Identifyingopportunities for competitive market advantage, which could include AI technologies,new costsaving solutions or process enhancements.  

• Provideconsultationandtechnical oversighttoensurethatan appropriate levelof technical knowledge and discipline are being applied andutilized.  

• The successful candidate willdirectlyor indirectly supervisetechnical professionals in assigned areas, whilemaintainingresponsibility for own projects.  

• The candidate will havesignificantimpact on direction and quality of work done by other senior technical people.  

Education and Experience: 

• BS, MS or PhD degree inscience,engineeringand relatedfieldswithsubstantial years of applied industrial experience. 

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal & project management skills. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
