Job Description

The NEAP Facility and System Requirements unit is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer capable of supporting the Naval Examinations Acquisition Project (NEAP).  As a principal mechanical system design engineer and requirement owner, the candidate is responsible for developing and managing system requirements for NEAP equipment, Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) systems, process piping systems, or other related requirements for the NEAP Laboratory design.   The position requires collaboration with other stakeholders on the Laboratory design and the design agent for the NEAP project.

 

Important Duties:
•    Requirements Management: Validate that AE designs meet laboratory requirements and update technical changes as needed, including cost estimates for requirement modifications.
•    Design Support: Oversee mechanical, HVAC, or piping system infrastructure designs and during construction.  Reviewing studies, drawings, and analyses from design agents or contractors.
•    Collaboration: Coordinate with internal and external program organizations to meet project objectives.
•    Training and Mentorship: Educate others on NAVSEA, DOE, and Building Code requirements.
•    Work Planning: Align resources, scope, and risk to meet project schedules and goals.
•    Technical Oversight: Conduct research, design, troubleshooting, and testing of mechanical engineering systems. Prepare technical analyses, recommendations, formal correspondences, and presentations for peers and leadership.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

•    BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering
•    Technical Skills:
o    Knowledge of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer/Fluid Mechanics, refrigeration cycles, ability to perform and review heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations 
o    Familiarity with HVAC building codes (e.g. ASHRAE)
o    Experience with Radiological Ventilation systems and ASME-AG-1 using the DOE nuclear air cleaning handbook.
•    Experience with requirements management
•    Experience with NNPP and major construction projects.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills
•    Experience with design of radiological facilities and hot cell or water pool facilities.

Pay Range

$105,200.00 - $164,400.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
