SUMMARY OF POSITION
Don Strange of Texas is now hiring for Prep Cooks in our high-volume catering kitchen.
Our catering prep cooks are required to prepare large quantities of food to be served at weddings, conventions, meetings, and other large events or gatherings. They prepare foods of many different types and styles in a timely manner for our large-scale off-site events. This position is primarily based at our headquarters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Excellent knife skills
Preparation and production of food and recipes, setting up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
Assist with menu development, specify product standards, control and maintain food inventories, adhere to recipes and ensure smooth and safe operations
Help maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen
Possibly attend events as onsite, on-location chef (as needed)
Adhere to required cleaning and sanitation standards
Ensure complete compliance with all food, safety and physical standards and policies

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Proven experience in the culinary field. Experience in high-volume, quality-oriented catering, restaurant or banquets experience preferred
2 years of full-service kitchen cooking experience, required
Excellent volume cooking and presentation skills
Skilled at preparing ingredients, knife skills, and adhering to recipe standards
Ability to work and communicate with a variety of people of different skill levels and varied backgrounds
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and good listening skills
Ability to effectively handle many tasks at once in a fast-paced work environment
Thoroughness, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills
Good decision-making and ability to proactively make changes as needed
Food Handler Certification, required
Be able to stand for long periods of time, reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds

Starting pay is $15.00-$17.00 hourly, based on experience and qualifications
This is a full-time opportunity and scheduling is event based. Primarily day-shift, though weekends and overtime may be required based on demand.
