RFG Advisory is seeking a disciplined, detail driven Portfolio Trader who thrives in a structured, process-oriented environment and takes pride in producing accurate, consistent, and compliant work. This role plays a critical part in the execution and integrity of our internally traded accounts, ensuring that trades are placed correctly, portfolios remain aligned to models, and client requests are handled with care and precision.
This position is ideal for someone who values clarity, defined procedures, and high standards, and who finds satisfaction in doing work the right way, every time. Success in this role is measured by accuracy, consistency, and adherence to fiduciary and regulatory requirements, not speed or risk taking.
This is not a day trading or quantitative trading role. Prior experience trading in a fiduciary environment is required.
Location
This role can be in our Birmingham office or remote.
- If in Birmingham, AL, our office works a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 remote).
- If remote, occasional travel to Birmingham will be required including onboarding.
What You’ll Do
As a Portfolio Trader, you will be responsible for executing and maintaining trades within clearly defined guidelines and established systems. Your work will be steady, methodical, and highly detail focused.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute trades for new accounts based on Advisor requests and approved models
- Maintain and manage the daily trade blotter to ensure timely, accurate execution
- Review historical trading activity to confirm trades were placed correctly
- Conduct periodic reviews of accounts to rebalance portfolios back to model targets
- Maintain internal model portfolios and percentage allocations
- Review daily cash reports to identify accounts requiring trading activity
- Process additions, withdrawals, and account terminations, including the orderly liquidation of securities
- Execute trade corrections for internally traded and third party manager accounts
- Provide technical and platform support related to trading systems
- Prepare periodic reports and respond to defined data queries (e.g., holdings across platforms or managers)
- Follow all firm policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role
This role emphasizes completing each task accurately before moving on to the next, with a strong focus on consistency and quality.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Economics
- 2+ years of trading experience in a fiduciary environment
- Series 65 or 66 or willingness to attain within 60 days of employment (required)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability and willingness to learn new trading software and systems
- Experience with the Orion Eclipse trading platform (preferred)
