Overview




Now hiring lateral Police Officers! If you are an experienced sworn law enforcement officer in California, consider applying. This position is eligible for the City's Hiring Bonus Program. Candidates may qualify for a $35,000 hiring bonus, to be paid in 3 installments: $15,000 at hire, $10,000 at year 1 anniversary, and $10,000 at year 2 anniversary. Those participating in the Hiring Bonus Program are expected to make a 3-year commitment to the City of Madera. Additionally, candidates demonstrating sufficient work experience may be placed at the top step of the assigned salary range if approved by the City Manager. 




Primary Responsibilities




The Police Officer II is the senior class in the Police Officer series. Officers are responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned law enforcement duties and responsibilities, under general supervision. 




Minimum Qualifications




 



  • A high school diploma, or equivalent

  • Two (2) years full time work experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in California

  • Successful completion of college coursework in criminology, police science, or a related field is desirable but not required

  • Possession of a California POST Basic Certificate

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license


 




Additional Information




Applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications. Those persons who meet the necessary criteria will be called for an oral interview, which is weighted at 100%. Candidates who earn at least 70% on the interview will be recommended to the Civil Service Commission for inclusion on the employment eligibility list.

Persons selected for further consideration will be required to successfully pass a polygraph examination, background investigation and chief’s interview before being offered a conditional appointment. The offer is conditioned on successful completion of a thorough psychological assessment and medical evaluation (including a drug screen). Applicants must pass all elements to be considered for hire. The City Manager will make the final selection and appointment based on recommendation for hire by the Police Chief.
