Job Overview
We are seeking a Plant Operator II to perform intermediate-level technical work in the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment plant processes.
This role is responsible for monitoring and adjusting treatment systems, troubleshooting equipment, performing laboratory testing, and maintaining plant operations. The Plant Operator II works with more complex systems and provides input to supervisors on process improvements and operational efficiency.
This position requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may respond to after-hours emergencies. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge, experience in plant operations, and the ability to independently manage treatment processes while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in water or wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance
- Possession of a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class “B” License
- Experience monitoring, operating, and adjusting plant systems and treatment processes
- Experience troubleshooting pumps, motors, and treatment equipment
- Experience collecting samples and performing laboratory analysis
- Ability to interpret operational data and adjust systems accordingly
- Basic computer skills for system monitoring, reporting, and data entry
- Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate work vehicles
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Experience Preferences
- Experience working in municipal or utility plant environments
- Familiarity with SCADA or automated control systems
- Knowledge of water quality standards and wastewater treatment processes
- Experience ordering chemicals and managing treatment inputs
- Experience supporting or mentoring entry-level operators
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, odors, and wet environments
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
Education Preferences
- Coursework or certifications in water/wastewater treatment, environmental science, or related field
