Job Overview
We are seeking a Plant Operator I to support the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment plant processes.
This entry-level skilled role is responsible for monitoring plant operations, collecting and analyzing samples, maintaining equipment, and ensuring proper treatment processes are followed. The Plant Operator I will inspect systems, adjust chemical feeds, operate treatment units, and assist with troubleshooting equipment issues.
This position requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may respond to after-hours emergencies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of working in a fast-paced utility environment while maintaining accurate records and supporting regulatory compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in water or wastewater operations, or completion of an apprenticeship/internship or similar role
- Possession of a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class “C” License
- Experience monitoring plant systems, equipment, and treatment processes
- Experience collecting samples and performing basic laboratory analysis
- Ability to operate and maintain pumps, motors, valves, and treatment equipment
- Basic computer skills for data entry, reporting, and system monitoring
- Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate work vehicles
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience Preferences
- Experience working in municipal or utility plant operations
- Familiarity with water treatment or wastewater treatment processes and equipment
- Experience with SCADA or other automated control systems
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory testing procedures
- Experience responding to system alarms or emergency situations
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, odors, and wet environments
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent

- Coursework or certifications in water/wastewater treatment, environmental science, or related field
