Position Summary:
Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to provide therapeutic services to residents under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist. The PTA assists with preparing residents and equipment for therapy and carries out prescribed treatment programs to improve mobility, function, and quality of life.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a two-year, APTA-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current New York State Physical Therapist Assistant license/certification in good standing.
- Minimum of six (6) months experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents safely.
Work Environment:
- Professional and supportive healthcare environment.
- Occasional exposure to residents with serious or terminal illness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties are performed under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Administer physical therapy treatments as prescribed by the physician and outlined in the Physical Therapist’s initial evaluation, demonstrating an understanding of each resident’s diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, including:
- Application of heat, cold, ultrasound, massage, and electrical stimulation.
- Passive, active-assistive, active, and resistive exercise programs.
- Gait training and progression.
- Postural drainage and percussion techniques.
- Instruction in activities of daily living (ADLs), including transfer techniques, bed positioning, and wheelchair mobility.
- Education for residents and families on transfers (bed, toilet, car), positioning, guarding techniques, and mobility.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation of resident status, treatment progress, and attendance.
- Promptly report incidents, changes in condition, or concerns related to resident equipment or treatments to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Maintain therapy supplies and equipment in proper working order.
- Participate in in-service education and continuing education programs.
- Provide in-service training and validation for CNAs and nursing staff as appropriate.
- Assist with maintaining and updating departmental and facility policies and procedures.
- Perform clerical and administrative duties related to the department as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and adhere to established safety and infection control practices.
- Delegate and supervise Nursing Rehabilitation Assistants as assigned.
