LOCATION: Lancaster, PA (Lancaster General Hospital)

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours/week) Evening Shift 4 pm- 12 midnight. Must have flexibility.

Summary:

  • Position Summary:
  • The Phlebotomy Educator is essential in providing standards for phlebotomy services within and throughout the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health organization. This position will serve as a resource to the organization by establishing basic guidelines and provide support to inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy services, and coordinate with nursing and or patient care assistants who provide phlebotomy services.
  • Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties:
  • Teach the phlebotomy standards in a classroom setting.
  • Post and maintain schedules, plan, record, and credit attendance.
  • Stay up to date with current phlebotomy standards such as CLSI , CAP, and other accrediting bodies, and disseminate updated information to appropriate departments when needed.
  • Participate in operations requiring compliance, licensure, and safety standards.
  • Responsible for quality assurance and process improvement programs pertaining to phlebotomy procedures and processes.
  • Identify problems and training gaps, and propose corrective action implementation in a timely manner.
  • Provide supplemental training and continuing education regarding phlebotomy best practices.
  • Collaborate regarding new policies, equipment, technological implementation, or procedural modification.
  • Assist the department supervisor manager in monitoring employee performance and competence.
  • Perform duties as a Phlebotomy Technician.
  • The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
  • Serve on committees and task forces as requested within the department and throughout the organization to ensure standardization, consistency, and competency.
  • Train, educate, and facilitate other safety training alongside the Safety Officer within the Phlebotomy Department.
  • Perform projects and duties assigned within the department.

Responsibilities:

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High school GED graduate.
  • Phlebotomy certification and or clinical certification.
  • Combined three 3 years phlebotomy experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • One 1 year phlebotomy teaching or training.
  • One 1 year experience with basic keyboarding, and office setting equipment.
  • Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Support or technical leadership experience in a clinical setting.
  • Phlebotomy Instructor certificate.
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree.
