Position Summary:
The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for upholding the mission, vision and values of Conway Medical Center in all interactions with staff, peers, colleagues, leadership and patients. The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of phlebotomists working in the laboratory and outpatient services under the direction of laboratory leadership. The responsibilities include managing inventory, policies, procedures, training and scheduling phlebotomy staff, making sure that all shifts are covered with adequately trained staff. The PS is a working position and requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the needs of the facility.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma required.
- Completion of Board-Certified Phlebotomy program.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in phlebotomy services required.
- Previous lab leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of leadership, creativity, teaching, education, and group dynamics.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Board certified in Phlebotomy required. ASCP Certification preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides exemplary customer service in every interaction.
- Must maintain awareness of phlebotomy collection technique and issues, and has the responsibility of creating, organizing and performing nurse collection and submission education.
- Responsible for new phlebotomy training, documentation, and safety reviews, as well as oversight of the phlebotomy student program.
- Responsible for the daily review and routing of faxed laboratory results to physician offices and Quest.
- Maintain knowledge of Send Outs and assist with ordering and getting testing results to the correct area.
- Responsible for the review of collections and TAT issues with managers and will assist in resolving and reporting issues.
- Assist the Administrative Lab Director with charge reviews and other duties as assigned.
- Assist with multiple phlebotomy responsibilities to include oversight of tray assessment, and floor inventories, assist with general clerical duties and provide phlebotomy coverage when resources are not available.
- Must annually review and maintain all specimen collection policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Effectively utilize strong organizational skills.
- Consistently display effective verbal communication skills.
- Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required.
- Regularly exercise independent judgement.
- Working knowledge of CAP standards and assist in CAP inspections.
