Phlebotomist / Lab Technician
Job Purpose
The Phlebotomist / Lab Technician is responsible for performing phlebotomy, processing laboratory specimens, and assisting with in-house testing while ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role supports laboratory operations and collaborates closely with providers and clinical staff to deliver high-quality patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to obtain blood specimens from patients of all ages
- Ensure proper patient identification and accurate specimen labeling
- Process laboratory specimens including receiving, identifying, accessioning, sorting, centrifuging, and preparing samples for in-house testing or referral laboratories
- Assist with waived and moderate complexity testing as permitted by training and certification
- Operate laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, and other waived testing devices in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines
- Prepare and package specimens for shipment to reference laboratories according to established standards
- Maintain compliance with CLIA regulations and all local, state, and federal laboratory standards
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control procedures on laboratory equipment as required
- Follow universal precautions and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous materials
- Communicate effectively with providers and clinical staff regarding specimen requirements, test preparation, and turnaround times
- Perform data entry and clerical duties related to laboratory services
- Monitor and order laboratory supplies as needed
- Ensure all laboratory procedures are performed according to established standards of care

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Completion of Phlebotomy or Laboratory Assistant training program (Required)
- 1+ year of clinical laboratory or phlebotomy experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and patient care skills
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and CLIA regulations
