Pharmacy Technician – Hospital Setting (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Houston, TX 77094 (West Campus)
Schedule: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Contract Length: 13 weeks with potential to hire
A major children’s hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for a 13-week contract opportunity with the potential for permanent hire. This role is based at the hospital’s West Campus in Houston and supports both pediatric and adult patient populations.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists with the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications
- Support procurement, recordkeeping, storage, and distribution of controlled substances
- Enter patient diagnoses, weight, allergies, and body surface area to ensure accurate medication dosing
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control procedures during sterile product preparation
- Ensure medications are accurately prepared and verified by a pharmacist
- Demonstrate competency in batch, medication, and prescription order entry
- Collaborate with Pharmacy Support Services to maintain medication inventory and follow non-formulary procedures
- Obtain pharmacist initial and final checks and apply appropriate dilution and expiration dating labels
Required Skills
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental standards for pharmaceutical handling
- Strong math, reading, and communication skills
- Ability to operate equipment used in sterile product preparation
Education & Certification Requirements
- Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (or Pharmacy Intern license)
- Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB
- Preferred: IV sterile compounding certification
