Description:
A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides personalized care and support to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities due to disability, illness, age-related conditions, or developmental disabilities. This role may also include working with DBHDD (Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities) clients, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs.
Responsibilities may include assisting with personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, running errands, community outings, skill-building activities, and providing companionship. For DBHDD clients, duties may also involve implementing individualized care plans, documenting services, supporting behavioral goals, and promoting independence in community settings.
The primary goal of a Personal Care Assistant is to help clients maintain their independence, dignity, safety, and overall quality of life.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Experience working in a similar role preferred (experience with DBHDD clients is a plus).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, compassion, and empathy.
- Ability to follow care plans and work independently.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift or transfer clients if needed.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Standard motor vehicle report and proof of car insurance.
- Physical examination and TB test results.
- PCA or CNA Certification OR willingness to take and pass the PCA test with the agency.
- Ability to complete required DBHDD trainings and documentation (if assigned to DBHDD clients).
