Job Summary:The Peer Support Specialist for the Diversion Support Services (DSS) program provides recovery-oriented support to individuals involved in the justice system. This role includes completing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) screenings within the jail setting and offering an introduction to the DSS program. Drawing from lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges, the Peer Specialist engages individuals through individual and group sessions to foster hope, empowerment, and recovery.
The Peer Specialist uses theWellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)model and other evidence-informed tools to support participants in building coping skills, navigating reentry, and connecting to services. The ideal candidate demonstrates empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to support clients of all ages in a culturally competent and recovery-focused manner.
The Diversion Support Services program works with individuals who are incarcerated in Middlesex County and released under bail reform to link them to services, including housing, financial assistance, physical health and mental health services. The program works from a peer-focused and strengths-based model to bring consumers from surviving to thriving.
Hours:
This position is Full Time, Monday – Friday, with some evening and weekend hours required.

Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degreepreferred
+ Lived experiencewith mental health or substance use recovery andinvolvement with the justice systemrequired
+ Certified Peer Specialist credentialpreferred; must be willing to obtain certification within 6 months of hire if not already certified
+ Experience providing peer support or working with justice-involved populationspreferred
+ Familiarity with theWRAP modeland recovery principles
+ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
+ Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
