Patient Collections Specialist

This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service while answering questions from patients, staff and insurance companies. The Billing specialist will also have a proper phone etiquette, computer skills and the ability to multi-task and work well independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment; collaborating effectively with all departments and cultivating a nurturing atmosphere of courtesy, compassion, respect, empathy, dignity and optimism.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Processes and reviews reports within the billing system to research information required to complete the patient collection process.
- Reviews patient balances to ensure they are accurate.
- Corrects claims and resubmit as necessary.
- Handles phone inquiries from patients regarding balances.
- Answers questions from Front Desk regarding patient copays, deductibles and outstanding balances.
- Contacts patient to set up payment arrangements.
- Meet with patient face to face when patient is in office.
- Prepare collection spreadsheet.
- Liaise with collection agency.
- Review and approve patient statements on a weekly basis.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous medical billing & medical collections experienced required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Highly detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Ability to comprehend established office routines and policies.
- Must be able to display positive attitudes and behaviors towards patients and all staff members.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to deal with confidential data.
- Understanding of different insurance carriers’ guidelines.
- Basic math aptitude.
