Summary
Job Summary
Functions as a key member of the Emergency Department nursing care team, participating in the implementation of select components of the patient’s plan of care under the direct training of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Director. Promotes exceptional customer service with patients and their families and makes recommendations for improved patient care and the promotion and maintenance of a safe, cost-effective healthcare environment. Assists the Registered Nurse in providing activities of daily living (ADL) needs of patients. Communicates and documents patients’ status.
Skills
1. Competent in clinical skills required of Emergency Department Patient Care Technician.
2. Effective oral and written communication skills.
3. Ability to function effectively in a challenging environment.
4. Proficient in venipuncture and capillary techniques.
5. Proficient in waived and moderate complexity testing procedures.
6. Knowledge of medical terminology.
7. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
8. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
Work Experience
Six months of experience as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Medical Assistant, or Nursing Assistant is required.
License/Registration/Certification
Current BLS training is required.
One of the following is required:
1. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-A) Certification
2. Registered Certified Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
3. Medical Assistant with Certified Phlebotomy Certification
4. Patient Care Technician Certification
Education and Training
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Completion of one of the following is required:
a. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician program
b. Patient Care Technician program
c. Nursing Assistant program
d. Medical Assistant program.
